What will this cost?
Area rugs are priced per square foot: $3–$6 synthetic, $4–$7 wool, $5–$8 hand-knotted, $6–$10 silk, and about a dollar more per square foot in Manhattan. Carpet runs $1–$4 per square foot or $50–$150 per room, and stairs $2–$5 per step.
Which service do I need?
If it is fitted wall-to-wall, you want carpet cleaning, done in your home. If it is a loose rug, you want area rug cleaning, usually collected and washed at a plant where it can be dusted, rinsed and dried properly.
Who covers my area?
Companies are listed by borough and neighborhood, with the access quirks that actually matter in New York — walk-ups, service elevators, and buildings that need a certificate of insurance before a crew can start.
How do I compare quotes?
Describe the same job to every company, in writing. Most quote gaps are not price differences at all — they are different jobs, usually an on-site surface clean versus a full in-plant wash.
Something went wrong
Ask for the difference itemised in writing first. Keep your quote, your invoice and your photos. If it is not resolved, an unresolved consumer complaint in New York City goes to the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection through 311.
How do I look after a rug?
Vacuum both sides, rotate the rug twice a year, use a pad, and blot spills rather than rubbing them. Professional cleaning every 3–5 years is typical, or every 1–2 years with pets or children.
What This Cannot Do
It cannot value your rug, diagnose damage from a description, or give you a binding price. Those need a person looking at the rug. What it can do is make sure the figure you start from is the same one the rest of this site uses.

Why not just build a chatbot?
Because a confident wrong answer about a $700 hand-knotted rug is worse than no answer. The prices and methods on this site are checked and consistent; a chatbot inventing a number would undo that.
Can it tell me what my rug is worth?
No. Valuation needs someone to look at the rug. A cleaner can often tell you the construction and fiber, which is the first step.
Can it give me a real quote?
No. Only a company can quote, and only in writing after they know the fiber, size, condition and how they will reach your door. The quote builder helps you ask properly.
