Rug Cleaning Cost by Size in NYC
What a professional clean costs in New York by rug size, from a 2×3 to a 12×15. The wash itself is the small part — fibre, size and the minimum charge move the number more than the address does.

Why size is not the whole price
Fibre
Silk and hand-knotted wool cost more per square foot than synthetics — the same size can double in price on fibre alone.
Construction
A hand-knotted rug with unstable dyes needs a careful, slower wash than a machine-made synthetic.
Condition
Old stains, pet contamination and prior repairs are quoted on top.
The minimum charge
Below a certain size the per-square-foot rate stops mattering and the $150–$250 minimum takes over.
Pickup
Most NYC cleaners include free five-borough pickup above the minimum; some charge $20–$75 per trip.
The minimum charge catches small rugs
A * in the table marks a low end the minimum has raised, and “Minimum” marks a size where the whole range sits under it. The table lifts low ends to $150, the bottom of the usual range, so a shop with a higher minimum will quote more on those sizes.
Which sizes are caught depends on the fibre. A quote’s low end follows the area rate only once a rug is big enough for the fibre’s low rate to reach $150: about 50 square feet in synthetic, 38 in wool, 30 in Persian or Oriental and 25 in silk. Below those sizes the table shows * or “Minimum”.

Rug Cleaning Cost by Size — FAQs
How much does it cost to clean an 8×10 rug in NYC?
An 8×10 rug is 80 square feet and runs about $240–$480 in synthetic, $320–$640 in wool and $480–$960 in silk. Fibre, not size alone, moves the number; Manhattan quotes land at the high end of each range.
How much to clean a 9×12 rug?
A 9×12 rug (108 square feet) runs about $432–$864 in wool and $540–$972 for a hand-knotted Persian or Oriental. Silk is the highest, at $648–$1,296.
Why does a 3×5 cost so much per square foot?
$10 per square foot is what a $150 minimum comes to on a 3×5 (15 square feet). That is more than the top of the synthetic, wool and Persian ranges ($6, $8 and $9); only silk, at up to $12, goes higher. At that size the minimum, more than the area, sets the price, which is why the smallest rows of the table read “Minimum”.
How much to clean a 5×8 rug?
40 square feet is a 5×8. At the area rates synthetic comes to $120–$240, but a $150 minimum lifts the low end, so the table shows $150–$240 and marks it with an asterisk. Wool is already over the minimum at $160–$320; Persian runs $200–$360 and silk $240–$480.
